Following my cancer diagnosis in 2016, my priorities changed almost overnight. Family and friends came first and I shifted my focus to my physical health & mental wellbeing, learning also to appreciate the little, yet important, things in life.
Having worked in the fitness industry for 13 years, I exercised most days and enjoyed nutritious meals but I also had a huge amount of stress in my life. I worked long hours in a job I loved, but I was caring for my autistic son and typically sleeping for only 5 hours a night. While people have always been important to me, I never really took enough time in my schedule for me.
Having just undergone a mastectomy, reconstructive surgery and 6 rounds of chemotherapy, I saw the positive effect that regular exercise had on my side-effects, recovery and mental wellbeing.
